I enjoy swimming. I really enjoy competing. Competition is the expression of my dedication in training and practice. I use it primarily as a measure of my dedication and focus in preparation. This year is my Freshman year and although I'm swimming on the Varsity team, I'm experiencing (for the first time) some challenges due to my age and experience level. I'm remaining competitive, but I'm not the fastest swimmer in the pool. I will be though. I've been fortunate enough to have coaches and advisors who have shown me the areas that I can improve on and I'm certain that within the year I can swim with the guys who have 3 years on me. I recently swam a 24.35 50 Free and my goal this year is to break the 24 second mark. I'm also working on improving my 100 butterfly and longer distance freestyle races and believe that I can be very competitive in those events beyond my "sprinter" status. My goal is to be a competative Division 1 swimmer at a school with a strong Biology department. Academics don't come as easily as my swimming does. But swimming has taught me focus and dedication. It's taught me goal setting and achievement so I've been able to achieve a level of accidemics that are greater than I would have achieved without the influence of my athletics.
