Personal Statement
My name is Mitchell Bunger and I’m a laid back and funny individual, until I get into the pool. I am a competitor who isn’t afraid to work hard, and persevere when faced with obstacles both in the pool or in the classroom. I’ve been swimming club level for a small team in Manhattan, KS since elementary school. I've been excited with my growth and development in my swimming and my big time drops that continue to happen for me each season as I progress!
This summer, while swimming LC for my club team, the Marlins I ended the season at the Missouri Valley Champs in Shawnee Mission going to finals and placing in the top 8 for the 800 Free and the 400 Free. I'm excited to start my 22-23 high school season where I will be the first 2 year captain for Manhattan High School. During my 21-22 season I lettered for the 3rd consecutive year and placed 6th in 500 Free at the 6A Kansas State Swim Meet at the of the season. During the 20-21 school year which was my sophomore season I was a varsity letter winner and broke the long-standing school record at Manhattan High for the 500 Free. I was also the League Champion in the 200 and 500 Free at the KS Centennial League Meet. For the second straight year, I qualified for the Kansas 6A State Swim meet placing 12th overall in the 200 Free and medaled 7th over all in 6A for the 500 Free. I also qualified and competed in the March 2021 Speedo Sectionals in Jenks, OK. During my first season as a freshman on the MHS Swim team, I was a varsity letterman, was the Centennial League Runner Up in the 200 Free and Centennial League Champion in the 500 Free, qualifying for the Kansas State Swim Meet in both events. My ultimate goal is to swim at the collegiate level and continue to push myself as a student athlete. I also play trombone and this year I am a drum major for our school's marching band , was inducted into National Honor Society as a sophomore and I am a part of our schools peer modeling program with students in the Life Skills program and will be a part of our fundraising campaign for the KS Special Olympics.
