Personal Statement
My goal in swimming is to be an asset to a strong collegiate team. I want to be a contributing member to the team, and help add to the team in anyway I can. I also want to help further my own swimming talent, and see how much I can improve as both a swimmer and a person. I am the type of swimmer who never misses a practice and is willing to do what it takes to improve their own talent. I don't take shortcuts on sets, and I always try my hardest no matter what. In addition to attending practice 6 days a week, I have maintained a 3.8 grade point average.
This is what Coach Fugmann, my club coach, had to say about my last meet:
"I have seen Jackson swim many miles, and this one is his best yet! Jackson did not swim in the high school meets in order to focus on this one, and I tapered him differently than the others so I’m just thrilled that it worked out for him. I was ecstatic for him on Saturday night when he posted a terrific 5.61-second drop in his 500 Free. But he nearly took his mile out in this same time, which for most people would mean certain crash and burn by the end. But I’m convinced that Jackson doesn’t feel pain like the others and his determination in the tougher races is unbelievable. By the time he got to Sunday’s mile, he had already had 2 grueling days, two 400 IM’s and the 1000 on the same day, two 500’s, etc… But he still drops 28.56 seconds in this 1650, all the way down to a 15:49.60, which is his 1st Futures cut! And what is impossible for most mortal men, not long after this incredible mile, this guy also has a lifetime best 200 Fly Sunday night. Jackson deserves this. When most of Jackson’s training partners are loud and obnoxious, and cry most of the time, Jackson is always quiet and polite and just works hard. My hat is off to this 17YO gentleman. "
