2021 SpotlightPersonal Statement
Hello, my name is Devin. I am currently enrolled at Harford Technical High School and I am a Junior currently, graduating in 2023. My goals this year is to crack down on my times and overall health due to COVID not allowing me to train or work as hard as I had hoped. During my Freshman year I saw vast improvement over all of my strokes and I hope to replicate that this year, by working with my coaches on my technique but also providing the work ethic to succeed. At Harford Tech I am in the Computer Aided Machining and Manufacturing program, and in College I wish to take my education further by majoring in Cyber Security or Criminal Justice. These two fields I have a very major interest in and wish to take my career and aspirations to them.
During the Summer I am a coach for the Rock Spring Racers. A club team that I have been a part of for the better of 9 years and the reason I started swimming. I really enjoy helping the younger kids and seeing them succeed is one of my favorite things. I believe coaching them has also helped me grow as a swimmer by wanting to be better not only for them but also for myself.
During winter I swim for Arena Club Aquatics, and have been swimming for them since 2019, I previously was a part of Harford Sailfish for 4 years. The Arena Club is where I saw a lot of improvement, with the coaching staff being extremely helpful with me over my year there before COVID hit us and we were forced to take an extended break from swimming. I am hoping that the 2021-2022 school year and winter season brings back what I lost and I improve greatly in not only my physique but also my times.

- ActivitiesI was one of the founding members of a club called "Calming Cobra's" which strived to express the importance of mental health and to reduce the stigma it has. We found important especially during COVID to let people know they are not alone and everyone supports each other in such a rough time. I myself found it important to have a group of people who shared my thought on how mental illness is common and should be talked about, as the more it's talked about the more action we can take to help those in need. For my Junior year I am currently apart of the Criminal Justice Club, which is lead by our School Resource Officer. The Club is to teach students about Law Enforcement and to gain a better connection to the community as well as provide students access to learning about Law Enforcement Careers.
