Personal Statement
Despite the unpopularity of swimming as a sport in my hometown of Milton, MA, I’ve been devoted more to swimming than any other sport. I get teased at school about it because, for one, my peers would rather I stick to being their starting goalkeeper for the varsity soccer team, and two, they do not understand the rigors of the sport; they think it’s easy. I learned to simply ignore them and go with my true desires of becoming a talented and successful swimmer. The team camaraderie helps immensely to achieve my personal goals. I am willing and eager to face the challenges in college level training that will push me beyond my limits. I look forward to bonding with my teammates who share similar goals and a dedication to the sport, and be more involved with the school. Further, the sport and its physiological benefits has inspired my career interest in a rehabilitative field such as physical therapy, sports medicine, or orthopedics. The sport itself is unique in a way that it works almost all of the muscles in the body, which is something that soccer does not do. I look forward to an exciting 4 years in college opening doors to a fulfilling career inspired by my passion for swimming.
