Personal Statement
Although I had a bit of a late start into the sport of swimming, I have learned a tremendous amount both physically and mentally. I have also had so much fun over the course of the past few years that I've been doing it. In eighth grade, I began to feel motivated and wanted to train hard in order to achieve my goals. It did not take long for me to realize that I would like to continue my swimming career past high school as well as pursue a higher education.
Swimming has taught me to be self aware and to recognize my strengths and areas where I can improve in the pool and in my life. I attribute this greatly to listening closely to my coach’s feedback that has not only helped my performance, but has helped me to develop my character. It has also taught me many valuable lessons about how hard work and dedication will pay off in the end, even when I had to push beyond the limits of what I thought I could do. Since the start of my high school swimming career, I have seen a lot of improvements and I know I still have a lot to learn. That being said, none of this could have happened for me without the support and inspiration from my teammates. I have learned that the team culture of support and encouragement is what keeps me going. I have met so many friends and mentors that would not be a part of my life otherwise.
In college, I plan to pursue a degree in liberal arts and sciences. Although I do not have a specific major decided, I would like to be immersed in a challenging academic environment. Presently, I have been taking my high school academics seriously with Honors classes and plan to take AP classes next year. I am excited to further my education and to take on the challenges that come with being a student athlete in college. I plan to continue to make self improvements as a swimmer as well as become part of a cohesive and inspiring team.
