My name is Micah Davis, I am a 16-year-old 10th grader and I am a swimmer for a small high school team in St. Cloud, MN. I started swimming at the age of 5 for our local club team that was both a YMCA and USA team, St. Cloud Gators. As a high school swimmer, I am a two-time MSHSL Class AA state champ, in both the 200 freestyle, and 100 butterfly. Those winning times also earned me All American times in both events both years. I’ve been awarded MVP on our high school team for both my 8th, 9th and 10th grade years. I was chosen to be a captain on our high school team next season. I also hold 3 age group MN state records: one 13-14 record in the 200 free, and two 15-16 records in the 100 fly and 200 fly, multiple age group relay records and the MN State High School record in the 100 Fly. I have also posted top 10 times in the nation for my age group multiple times.
I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside my coaches making sets and working on technical things with my teammates. I have helped write lineups for our meets. With all that being said, I’ve learned a lot from the sport and the people I’ve worked with throughout my swimming career.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that nothing comes easy, but if you are willing to put yourself out there, and are okay with falling down, you can achieve great things. Picking yourself up from falling down is a good skill to have as long as you have what it takes to get back up and try again. I love the sport very much and look forward to continuing with it until God shows me the next chapter of my life.
Outside the pool, my classroom looks very different from many other students as I am homeschooled. Homeschool education can look different from public or private schools, but the biggest advantage of being homeschooled is being able to study deeper into the subjects that interest me most, helping me to become much more proficient in that area of study as opposed to doing a shallow dive into a lot of different things. I also am a student at the local technical and community college where I took several general education classes this past year and next Fall (2024) I have been accepted into the 2-year electrical program. When I am not swimming or working on school I love to spend time outdoors, it is a peaceful place for me to unwind and take a mental break. And of course, I love spending time with my family and friends.
