Personal Statement
When I began swimming in the 5th grade, I had an immediate connection and love to the sport. I knew I wanted to go far with the sport. My love for swimming led me to have high hopes and dreams. I compared myself to teammates I swam with and other competitors at swim meets I attended, and I watched how good they were and contemplated on what I could do to be just as good as them or better. I believe I stand as a role model for the smaller children on my team. I would say that I work extremely hard at the sport, and I think the smaller children do take notice to the work I put into the pool. I also believe that I help to push my fellow teammates as well as they push me to the best of my ability. I coach a summer league swim team over the summer months as well as hold private sessions with some swimmers. I found a passion for coaching younger children and spreading my joy for swimming to them. I love teaching them about the strokes, how to improve technically, as well as teaching them how to cope with disappointments and remain humble in their times of success. I also am extremely dedicated to my education. Managing the long hours at the pool and the long hours of homework at night can be overwhelming at times, however I believe I have managed to balance school and swim successfully. I have a strong passion for science and writing in school. I have had two biggest dreams regarding school and swimming. It may seem obvious as it is many swimmers' dreams, but my goal is to be a participant in the 2020 or 2024 Olympic Trials. I believe what sets me apart from many swimmers who dream of this is that I am willing to endure the long hours of pain and tears I have ahead of me in the pool. Whereas most swimmers just say it and hope one day it will come true. My dream regarding school is to have an occupation in the medical field as that is where I am most passionate. Areas of medical technology I am most interested in include: veterinary medicine, anesthesiology, or pharmaceutical medicine.
