Personal Statement
I am a very versatile individual. I have been competitively swimming since I was 3, played soccer starting at 4, playing hockey since I was 5, and maintained high grades. I have always been a talented swimmer, specializing in butterfly and freestyle sprints and being above average for backstroke. I had to overcome a complication from my Sophomore heading into my Junior year; I had a 6 to 9 tear on my posterior inferior labrum ,which I needed surgery to fix. Even though I had to regain the strength and flexibility back in my left arm, I had my best season ever, cutting almost 8 seconds off of my 100 yard butterfly from the previous year, 0.6 seconds off of my 50 yard freestyle, and 2 seconds off of my 100 yard freestyle. I feel like this displays my perseverance in the face of challenges and that I never stop working at something until I get what I want, whether that be a time I set for myself at the beginning of the year, or a grade in the classroom. I am a perfectionist, always looking for ways to improve and get better, I constantly look for ways to improve my technique and get faster in and out water, and I'm willing to put in the work to get it. My current goals are to break my school's 100 yard butterfly record of 52.15 seconds and to continue to further raise my GPA ,as all classes I am in currently have an honor point attached to them. My collegiate aspirations are to get into a highly academically renowned school and to get a doctorate in engineering, specializing in robotics. I wish to become a big part of that school's swim team as a sprinter and butterfly and freestyler. One thing that I am great at as a teammate , is connecting with everyone across normal barriers others have. For instance I always try and mentor the incoming freshman on my high school team and help them out and get them up to speed, literally and figuratively.
