Personal Statement
I owe a lot to swimming. It has taught me that hard work pays off. I have learned responsibility, healthy eating habits, friendship, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Being in the pool keeps me grounded and is an outlet for my stress. I started swimming when I was two. My dad used to swim year-round, and he wanted to get me in the water when I was young. I took to swimming very fast. I struggled to find my place in sports, but I found success in swimming. I started swimming for a summer league when I was five. I really enjoyed the sport, so I joined a club team when I was ten.
I swam for two different club teams over three years: FAST and Parkway. I realized freestyle came naturally and it quickly became my focus. After three years of year-round swimming, I was burnt out and wanted to try other sports. I started playing club lacrosse and swam on the summer swim team.
I started my freshmen year in high school and decided to try out for high school swim team. I fell back in love with the sport. I have awesome coaches and teammates. We have a lot of fun and push each other to compete. I am a straight A student. I want to find a college where I can swim and attain an engineering degree. I have learned that swimming helps me focus on my goals and keeps me on a productive path. I am a hard worker, and I will give 110% effort in and out of the water.
