Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Bennett Apostol, and I swim for the Billings YMCA Seahawks club team and the Billings Central Catholic High School (BCCHS) Rams Swim Team. I am looking for a college that will give me the next competitive edge in my swimming career and a path to higher collegiate swim competitions. When coaches search for a new recruit to their team, they will want a student athlete like me!

I love being in the water and practicing with my fellow teammates. I like to challenge myself  to further my abilities and swim faster times. I especially enjoy swimming sprint to mid-distance events in all strokes whether it be the 50 free or 400 IM. Being a very versatile swimmer allows me to be an asset to any swim team. Coaches can rely on me to swim whatever stroke or event necessary to best position the team for competition and success.

Swimming is my passion! The idea of being part of a team that acts more like family than just coaches and teammates excites me. Athletes who support one another to be and perform their very best; friends who I can trust and who will have my back. I believe that a team is strengthened more by their commitment to each other rather than their commitment to the sport itself. Living in Billings, Montana has limited my options as to where and when I have time to practice. However, those limitations have not stopped me from pursuing a collegiate swim career and searching for that best team fit.

So, what sets me apart from any other recruit? I am most driven by my teammates and coaches, but I am also self motivated and strive to go beyond my limits to see where my capabilities can take me.  As current team captain of the Billings YMCA Seahawks and upcoming Co-captain for the Central Rams Boys Swim Team, I have been given the opportunity to serve both as a leader and inspiration to my fellow teammates. Moving forward into college, I also want to be inspiring to my new teammates and to be inspired by my swim team family; not only in the pool but in all of my academic and life pursuits.

In summary, I envision my next adventure in collegiate swimming like solving a Rubik’s cube. Initially, the cube colors are mixed up representing all of the individuals on the swim team. However with time, thought, and practice following extremely precise steps and turns; strength, speed, and accuracy result. Ultimately, all of the colors align to create a masterpiece representing a successfully complete and unified team that would gladly accept me as their newest recruit.
