Personal Statement
I began swimming when I was ten years old for the YMCA recreational team. I later joined the Sandpipers of Nevada club team when I was twelve and I have swam for them ever since. As I became a more competitive swimmer, the practices became more intense having between 9-11 practices a week. Having all those morning practices really made me grow as a person. Getting up at four in the morning and going to practice, then going to school, coming home and going to practice again really taught me self management as well as very good lessons in time management and self discipline.
I have always been able to learn quickly and adapt because both of my parents have served in the USAF and we have lived all over the country. Moving from place to place every two years has made me very capable to handle change. My mother retired in Las Vegas, Nevada and here is where I began swimming.
All of these skills have translated nicely into highschool and I’m on track to graduate with the diploma of distinction from a college preparatory school. Swimming is important but of course grades come first so school is very important to me and I will carry that mentality through college.
