I have been swimming competitively for 9 years and my goal is to be a Division II level college swimmer. At 6' 4", 190 lbs., size 14 feet and a wing span of 78", I feel that my potential in the future is very high. I know that I am a hard worker as I recently had to overcome major chest surgery in order to compete again. On 8/20/13, I had repair of a condition called pectus excavatum at Children's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. This surgery placed two 14" titanium bars underneath my sternum in order to give my heart more room to function. I had to rehab for 6 months - performing 30 sessions of physical therapy and returning to work outs with my personal trainer. Since the time I started competing again in February, 2014, I have attended Junior Olympics, Far Westerns, Western Senior Zones, the NV State Championships, and the Seattle Open surpassing all of my pre-surgery times. I definitely feel that I get stronger every time I compete. The bars will be taken out in June of 2016, just prior to starting my freshman year of college. This is an outpatient procedure and the recovery will be much quicker. The surgeon says I should be competing again by mid summer. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do in the pool when the bars come out.
