Personal Statement
I am a 5'11" swimmer from Bayville, NJ and I will be graduating in 2013. I have been swimming since I was 4 years old. I have swam in many high level competitions, such as YMCA Nationals. As a 14 year old, I placed 26th in the 100 yard breaststroke. I was also nationally ranked 1st for 14 year olds in the 100 yard freestyle and 5th in the 100 yard breaststroke for YMCA's. As a freshman, I broke 4 school records, was county champion in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke, conference champion in 200 freestyle, and I finished 3rd in the 100 yard breaststroke and tied for 4th in the 50 yard freestyle at the NJ High School Meet of Champions. The Star Ledger named me the High School Athlete of the Week in January and Rookie of the Year. I also placed 13th in the 100 yard freestyle and 14th in the 100 yard breaststroke at YMCA Short Course Nationals. As a 15 year old, I was nationally ranked 1st in the 100 yard free and 100 yard breaststroke, and 2nd in the 50 yard free and 200 yard free for YMCA's.
This past season, as a 16 year old, I placed in the top 24 at YMCA Nationals in all of my events, 50, 100, 200 free, and 100 breaststroke. I finished the 50 free with a time of 21.49, the 100 free 8th with a time of 45.9, the 200 free 11th with a 1:41.01, and the 100 breast 10th with a time of 56.9.
I would like to attend a school where I would be able to help the team during my earlier years at the school. I would like to go to the school that would be best for me, so location of the school is not a major concern. I am very competitive and like to swim at high level competitions. Because swimming is a sport that requires dedication in the pool, I have learned to manage and use my time wisely. In the classroom, I am a very focused student. I take all honors classes and maintain a 103.2 average and currently ranked third in my class. Financial help will be important to my family and I, so I am open to all schools that will not only help in that area, but that will be best for me in both athletics and academics.
