Hi, I'm Philip McLaughlin. My goal in college is to push both my academic and swimming careers. As someone with an amazing work ethic, I am known by my coaches, my teachers, my teammates, and my classmates as someone who gets things done--whether it be a swimming set or homework. I prefer to be a leader when I can. For example, I love helping the younger swimmers on the team, who frequently ask me for advice on swimming technique, race strategy, or even diet. This summer, I'm excited to coach for one of New Mexico's largest summer league teams.
In the pool or at the gym, I'm always looking for a challenge. If a set seems easy, I ask myself, "What can I add to get the most out of this? Longer underwaters? Further reach, better rotation, steadier kick?" If my team is doing burpees without the pushup, I do them with the pushup. When my teammates (friends) tease me about it--which they do--I cheer them on until they follow suit.
One thing that sets me apart from other swimmers is that I excel in both distance and sprint events, and I'm pretty well rounded in all the strokes.
As for school, I also hold my self to a very high standard. I am adamant about getting my work done, done well, and actually having learned it. Art is one of my favorite extracurricular activities, and my art pieces have even been exhibited at my school's art shows on multiple occasions. Lastly, I still "have a life," and do my very best to make it a happy and fulfilling one.
Thank you for considering me!
