Hello, my name is Riley Martinez.  I am a 11th grader at Bayside High School in Queens, New York.  I have been swimming competitively for 8 years and the sport has become a very important part of my life.  I started competing on a local YMCA team, CIY Barracudas and now swim for a USA team, Long Island Express.  Although training and practice can be tough at times, there is no better feeling than racing and seeing my hard work pay off at meets.  Balancing club swimming, varsity swimming and my academics is not an easy feat, but I work hard, prioritize and push myself.  I have been able to support the teammates on my varsity team who are newer to the sport of swimming, and find this rewarding.  Continuing to swim in college is a goal of mine and I hope to find a school that is a fit for me both academically and athletically.
