Personal Statement
When I think about it, I have been swimming all my life. I began competitively swimming in the 4th grade when I joined the Delmar Dolfins Swim Club whom I still swim for.
I love swimming. It has been my primary sport since I can remember. I enjoy being in the pool, racing and beating my times. Swimming has taught me a lot, It taught me the value of perseverance and the ability to multitask. Although at times, I feel tired when juggling, swimming practices, and social functions with friends I never wavered in my love of swimming. I stuck to it and made myself stronger both physically and mentally. Keeping swimming on my daily schedule taught me how to balance all those school and social activities and multitask to achieve desired goals. I am sure these lessons will benefit me in my future life when facing challenges of school and adult life.
I joined my high school's varsity team in the 8th grade and contributed to my team’s success that season helping us have a positive record for the first time in years. I managed to go to the State Championships in my sophomore year when I took 9th place in the 100 back. I took a varsity break in my junior year to focus on working on my skills with my club team so that my senior year I can compete at a high level during the varsity season and compete for a top spot at state championships. With the COVID pandemic my focus has shifted, rather than working hard in the pool (because we are not able to swim) to working hard on land. I run and do core and strength exercises daily, to ensure I stay in the best shape possible for when we return to the pool.
I want to swim throughout my college life and I believe I can be a good candidate for the college teams looking for a strong swimmer not only in backstroke but every event. I am hardworking and dedicated to the sport of swimming. As a teammate I show a lot of support for my team during practices and at meets. My ideal swim team would be one that, while being competitive in the pool and fosters a family-oriented culture with teammates.
