Personal Statement
I am passionate about swimming. It is a sport that allows athletes to set personal goals, share team goals, train hard, commit fully, and find success. I came to the sport of swimming late compared to many of my peers and hope to continue swimming at the collegiate level. Joining a team of dedicated swimmers and coaches and working together to train hard, study hard, support each other and push to new levels of success is my goal. I am seeking an opportunity to keep training and dropping time while contributing to and competing with a college team.
Awarded "most improved" and the "coach's award" twice, as well as my high school team's "golden goggle" award for demonstrating commitment, leadership, and consistently training hard every time I'm in the pool. As a junior, I served as Team Captain for the 2017/2018 high school season and plan to serve in the same role next year. I spend summers working as a lifeguard and as a volunteer coach for a local summer league team. It is rewarding to help young swimmers achieve their goals. I was recently inducted into the Highlander Society for community service.
My current club team does not have a weight training program. With the right guidance, I am confident I will continue to reach new levels of success in and out of the pool. I have a lot left to give to the sport of swimming and need time to show what I can do.
Academics are just as important as athletics. I seek to challenge myself through a rigorous schedule that includes AP and Honors level courses. I have served in student government, on my school's honor council, and currently, serve as a school ambassador.
