Personal Statement

My name is Jonathan William Seiferth. I got my full name from both of my grandfathers because my father’s father was named William Jon Seiferth and my mother’s father was named John William Gyory. I am 18 years old this September 6th 2011. I currently am enrolled at Hampton High School in Allison Park Pennsylvania. Hampton High School is one of the top schools in western Pennsylvania and is known for not only its achievements in the classroom, but also a few of its achievements in athletics. I have been attending the schools in this school district since kindergarten, and I have lived in Hampton Township all of my life. Throughout my years in Hampton I have learned many important ideas and have been taught well. The years of schooling have developed me mentally. Aside from academics I am a very active and fit individual. Life is one constant workout and I take advantage of it every second I get. Most kids can be found glued to a television, or sitting on a couch with a video game controller stuck in their hands. I on the other hand can be found either studying for school, learning new material, playing my guitar, or being physically active in one way or another. Because I have been so active all my life, I have become physically strong. My parents started me young with sport. I began with soccer at the age of 5 and I played soccer until I turned 11. Then came swimming at the age of 8, and despite the fact that I constantly wanted to quit swimming turned out to be my life and my passion. I still swim to this day and look forward to a potential career in collegiate swimming. School is most definitely not the only place one can learn important skills and knowledge. Swimming has taught me more things about myself and about my life than I could have picked up from going to school for the rest of my life. I have learned things such as how mentally tough I am, how to be a successful leader, how to push through even when there is nothing left to give, and how to make the best of the little things. Leadership to me is the biggest thing that swimming has taught me, and to be completely honest I do not think that I would be where I am today if it were not for leadership. I strive daily to be seen as a leader, and I attempt to steer everyone I meet in the direction of success. Positive influences are important in life and I understand that fully and grasp and share it every day. Personally I think that my greatest attribute that I have been blessed with is my will to succeed. I have had people tell me that I cannot complete certain tasks, and I have found out that nothing gets me more motivated than being told I cannot complete a task. Sure people say that they refuse to take no for an answer, but I will not be told I cannot complete a task. I enjoy being able to learn new material. For example I taught myself how to play guitar, and now I can read and write my own music without the help of personal lessons. Going along with learning new material, I am also a quick learner and have been known to pick up on new items very quickly and with minimal instructions. Sometimes however I do need a little extra help, but almost every time I am able to quickly obtain the skill at hand. Although I have covered a lot of information about myself here there is still much to be said about myself. If ever anyone has any questions about myself personally or really anything at all I am always open to answering questions and the information to contact me is in my profile.
