Personal Statement
Swimming over the past 8 years has made a large impact on my life. I've fallen in love with the sport and I don't know what I would do without it, and this is a big reason as to why I want to continue my experience and swim at the college level.
Swimming is not only a way for physical activity for me but it shows me that if I can set goals then I achieve them by putting in hard work and dedication. Swimming isn't an easy sport and it makes me think a lot about the views of life, that a hard set is comparable to a difficult situation in the real world, and the only way to get through it is to push with everything that you've got.
This year I was voted team captain by my teammates and this made me extremely excited. Since freshman year it had been my goal to be the team captain and that goal was achieved. Being the team captain showed me that there were more people looking up to me than I had expected there to be, and what it was like to be a leader of a large group of people. This action also opened my eyes to the younger kids that are on my club team that look up to me as their role model.
I am very involved in my school, I'm in all AP classes, I am in the top 10% of my class, president of FCCLA ( Family Community Career Leaders of America), NHS (National Honors Society), and SHS (Spanish Honors Society). Managing a fifteen hour week of swim and all of these other organizations have not only been fun but shows me that I'm able to do more than I expected that I could.
This year I placed 1st place at districts and regionals and also received athlete of the meet at districts. After regionals, I went to compete at the state swim meet in Austin, Tx to compete in the 200 IM where I placed 22 overall. I had always wanted to compete in college, but after going to state it was a real eyeopener on how much I really desired to compete at the college level.
