Personal Statement
Thank you for visiting my profile page. My name is Jacob Larsen and I have been swimming since I was 11 years old. My path to swimming is quite different than most. I started swimming competitively after taking private lessons from a college swimmer who gave lessons at our local pool. It was my coach who recognized the talent that I had as a swimmer. He said I was every coaches dream. I am highly coachable and I am able analyze my performance and take criticism from my coaches and my peers.I live in Brooklyn, WI which is outside of Madison, WI. I am currently a junior at Oregon High School. As a junior I am just beginning to explore my college options. I know for certain that I want to swim at a program where I can make a difference in addition obtain an excellent education.
This past year I have seen a significant improvement in my swimming. My commitment and dedication to the sport has paid off this past year. As a sophomore I earned individual conference championship in the 100 fly and was third in the 200 freestyle. This ended an eight-year drought for our high school swim team. In addition, I was part of the 200 medley relay which broke the school record four times during the season and tied the conference record. At our sectional meet I took second in the 200 freestyle qualifying for the WIAA Division I state meet. This was the first time in school history that they advanced swimmers to the Division I meet. I also finished in ninth place in the 100 butterfly obtaining my second qualifying bid to the state meet. In the 200 medley relay we took sixth place earning another qualifying time to the state meet and beating our previous record. At the WIAA state meet I finished 16th in the 200 freestyle and 18th place in the 100 butterfly in a personal-best time. The relay team was able to finish in 14th place breaking the school record for the sixth time.
This summer I made a transition to a new swim club. I personally felt I needed to be challenged more. In doing so I had an outstanding LCM season. I swam best times in all of my state events and finished in 2nd place in the 100 butterfly (59.05) and 5th in the 200 butterfly (2:14.31).
Thanks for reading my profile. I hope to hear from you.
