Personal Statement
Hello my name is Trent Calleja and I am 19 years old. I started playing tennis in 2009 at the age of 10. I began playing at my local community center, and I knew from the moment that I stepped on the court that tennis was the sport for me. Ever since I have been training hard to bring my game to new heights and competing in tournaments to become an experienced and well-rounded player.
I am very athletic and I have played many sports throughout my life. I am also very coach-able and I can pick up on new topics very easily. Having a supporting family and coaching staff by my side has made me the very optimistic and hard-working player that I am today. Playing this sport has taught me how to handle with pressure situations on and off the court. I am constantly training on the mental aspect of the game and every day I attain a new level of mental toughness.
In April of 2015 I was recognized as athlete of the month at Boulder Creek High School and awarded Most Valuable Player on the Boulder Creek tennis team for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Although I would like to play competitively in college, it is very important to me that I continue to play the sport that I love and pursue my interests in Computer Science. I currently am an undergraduate sophomore at Arizona State University studying for a Bachelor's in Computer Science. I am highly involved as a captain of the club tennis team at ASU; running drills and traveling across across the Southwest to compete against other college club tennis teams.
