One of my goals for college is to earn a spot on the school tennis team and contribute to the program’s success while continuing to benefit from all that tennis has to offer.
I’ve learned and continue to learn many things through tennis. On the court, I’ve learned how to win with respect and lose with dignity. Being consistently fair and honest in calling your own lines and debating close calls has helped build my integrity and character. After matches, I’ll evaluate what I did well and what I didn’t so I can learn how to adjust, practice (and practice and practice), and continually improve.
What I didn’t expect are the skills tennis has taught me that I can apply off the court. By earning the #1 Singles spot on my high school team since my Freshman year, I’ve learned how to lead with authenticity — no easy task with players who were much older. I’ve increased my work ethic and time management skills by staying ahead of my school work, attending practice/clinics, teaching kids through the Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring Association, and working at the Bellevue Tennis Center where I ran clinics, strung racquets, and performed general clay court maintenance (often in the dark before school started).
The attributes I would bring to a college tennis program are a tireless work ethic, character through leading and listening, and a goal of always striving to become better... on and off the court. Thank you for taking the time to review my profile.
