Ron Domeier '23 Recruiting Profile

I remember my first days in America. I was very excited but at the same time a bit scared of what is

coming. Since I don’t live with my parents anymore I learned a lot from life and how to live and more

likely by yourself. I come from a little village near hamburg which is north of Germany. I came to

Florida as an exchange student in August of 2021 to learn more about culture and

Already when I was little I was obsessed with the US and wanted to live there. When Covid came

my life in Germany went downhill. We had to stay at our homes for a long time and something felt

off when we first went to school again. That was the time when I decided to leave my home country

and told my parents that I want to use that time to learn something new about our world and

continue to study in the US. When I arrived in Florida I realized how different everything is. Specially

the culture and people were much nicer and more open than people in Germany. I was always a

very open person so managed to find new friends very quickly. In the beginning it was very difficult

for me in school because my English wasn’t very good at the beginning but in time I got better in

writing, reading and specially in speaking every day.

One of my favorite things to do is playing tennis and I continued with playing tennis. I found myself

a new private coach and played for my school as number 1 and team captain and got into the

semifinals in doubles and singles in the states championship at the end of my first tennis season.

By playing for my school I realized that team spirit plays a big role in America. Everyone supports

each other every second and helps each other. That was very unusual for me because we don’t

have school teams in Germany at all. School and sports were always two separate things for me

but I like how it’s here. I always played for myself and now I have a team that supports me and that

really helped my game within the last season. Also I try to play as many tournaments as I can but

it’s been very difficult for me to get to places because I don’t have a car and good tournaments are

often very far from where I live.

All in all I’m a very open person and always willing to learn something new. Also I learned within the

last year to always find a way and to take care of myself. I really want to go to college in Florida

because I feel like being home in this state. I always try my best and support my team.
