Why do I want to study in the United States (US)?
My dream has been to study and play tennis in the US since I reached high school – at the age of 14.
I believe that gaining a degree is very important as a back up plan if I am unable to make it as a pro. Just as many top tennis pros and sports people have done during their path in tennis. Kevin Anderson is one of those that comes to mind.
It has become clear to me, that the US is the place for me to continue my dream of playing tennis and studying, as there are many opportunities with great colleges and universities that cater for my goals.
I have gained firsthand experience through my tournaments, which range from mini South African tournaments to South African Nationals to ITFs. I have been able to achieve highly in these tournaments such as winning in ITFs as well as Nationals.
My belief is, that I would be a great asset to the game of tennis due to my drive and dedication to better myself and others around me, but also in a team environment. I am excited to be challenged both in my tennis and in my academics, and to be surrounded by those who have the same drive to work harder and to achieve more in order to bring out the best in each other. This is clear by how our school team (which I captained) was able to do better in a prestigious tournament than the year before despite having less high-ranked players and set the bar higher for those future tennis players coming up through the ranks to continue the drive.
I have a natural competitive side that pushes me, which is visible through my improving national and international ranking.
My future is in my hands,. I must drive it - for the opportunities are in front of me, the tools are there to be used wisely and I believe I can achieve success.
