Hello, my name is Mikeal Carpenter. I will be 16 years old on April 19th. I have been playing tennis for nine years now, although I picked up a racket at the age of two and started learning to play. I am 5’10” and weigh 145 lbs. I like to consider myself an all-around aggressive player, serve and volleyer who likes to learn new shots. Tennisrecruting.net has ranked me an 4-Star player for 2020. I train at the Junior Tennis Champions Center (JTCC) in College Park, MD; and I play the #1 singles varsity position on my Bowie High School tennis team. My GPA at this time is 2.0 and rising. During my freshman year I went undefeated all the way to the Maryland State Championships where I reached the semi-finals and finished in 4th place.
Received certificate of recognition from P.G. County government; 2017 Washington Post Spring All-Met Boys’ Tennis First Team; and received the Maryland Athletic Association Award. Lettered my first year on the team. My Mid-Atlantic Section ranking is #7 in singles and #6 in doubles. My National ranking is #203. In 2017 I played in 15 singles tournaments, won 4 and made it to at least the quarters/semis. And I also played 15 doubles tournaments; won 2 and made it to at least the quarters/semis. In 2018 so far I have played in 3 singles, won 2 and made it to the quarters/semis. Played 4 doubles tournaments, was a finalist in 2 and made it to the quarters/semis in the others.
My goal is to play tennis at the collegiate level and my ultimate goal is to play tennis at the ATP level after college. I have a hunger for the game of tennis and I work hard and compete hard. I have a desire to play everyday and don’t like to miss a day. Training at JTCC is very disciplined and competitive and brings out the best in me.
Don’t worry tennis is not the only thing I do, although I may not have that much time to spend on other things. I’m into sports so I have dabbled in basketball, football, soccer and golf. Golf is the next major sports that I play. Started playing golf at the age of five and then entered the First Tee program at the age of seven. And compete yearly in the Drive Chip and Putt competition trying to earn a spot to go to Augusta, GA. Did make it to the Regionals. And I play chess and I play the saxophone.
I am not sure of what I want to do so I don’t know what I want to major in, but I was thinking along the lines of marketing or management so a college with a strong program in that area.
