Awards and Activities

  • AwardsLast year I was giving an award for having the highest score of my Geometry class. I was also awarded with the presidential award for academic achievement.
  • ActivitiesMUSIC—PIANO: I have played piano since first grade. I would have stayed with the school band after middle school but I could not work it out on my schedule. My Piano teacher is Mr. Manual, Burncoat Middle and High, Worcester, MA EMPLOYMENT: During the spring, summer and fall, I work many hours at Crystal Caves Mini Golf in Auburn in the Ice Cream and Pizza parlor. I help maintain the grounds, clean the bathrooms, monitor kids on the trampolines, re-load baseballs in the batting cages and do a TON of dishes. Recently I was allowed to teach tennis at the Shrewsbury Tennis Club. There I teach a wide variety of groups starting from elementary school to kids who are just a few years younger than me. Its been great and has been helping my comprehension of the game and to better my self as a player while teaching the groups how to be the best team possible. COMMUNITY SERVICE, VEGETABLE GARDEN WORKER FOR ST. JOHN’S KITCHEN FOOD DONATIONS:The owner of the Mini Golf has a huge vegetable garden on the back of the property near the parking lots. Employees are allowed to work in the gardens watering, weeding, picking squash, tomatoes, peppers and other food when we are slow and we can volunteer in the gardens when we are not working. Along with being in the garden, we help box the food for the St. John’s Food Kitchen in Worcester. Food pantries for the food insecure love produce because mostly people donate canned and box food. On my application, I included a link about a newspaper story I was in about working at Crystal Caves last April 2019. CITY OF WORCESTER CITIZEN SCIENCE PROGRAM, Worcester Dept. Public Works/Parks: I also volunteer for the City of Worcester Citizen Science program. We collect water samples from different lakes in the city and view droplets under a microscope to see what bacteria is growing and could cause problems like green algae blooms. Cyanobacteria is a big problem in some lakes because of the runoff from streets after storms that include fertilizers that feed algae. On March 6, I will present my findings at the “State of the Lakes” function for the city and on February 11th I will help present information on the city’s drainage system and how it impacts Indian Lake with my father at the Indian Lake Watershed Association meeting.
