Personal Statement
Tennis was the first sport I picked up at the age of three. I was introduced to the game by my parents who played tennis growing up. My mother was ranked in the mid-states and played at Division I Brown University. In grade school and high school, I spent many hours practicing at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy near my home in New York, playing tournaments and competing for my high school team.
Being the sole freshman member of the varsity tennis team and starting in my first year was a highlight of my high school career. As the youngest member of the team, I learned early on how to interact with more experienced players – both on the court and off – and as a result, gained a sense of maturity that served me later in my career. Tennis has also balanced my desire to spend extra time on academic endeavors.
Playing tennis for many years has taught me the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice, and leadership. As I leave high school, I’m looking for a college or university that will be a good fit for me academically as well as athletically. I believe I not only have the skills to compete for a college team, but the character, work-ethic, and leadership to make an immediate impact on whatever program to which I am fortunate to contribute. As a two-sport athlete (soccer) and captain of both, I believe that I have the characteristics to be a valuable member of a winning college tennis program!
