Personal Statement
I have been running track ever since the 6th grade, but did not start running distance until the 7th grade. My ran my first ever mile with a time of 5:59. I improved my time to 5:40 by the end of that season. In 8th grade, I ran cross country and took 2nd place in the region. I fractured my ankle playing soccer and missed 8th grade track, but came back my 9th grade year to run. I was very excited to see what I could do, but quickly realized I needed to put a lot more work in if I wanted to be competitive. I ended the year with a 5:09 mile, 11:32 two mile, and 2:25 800 meter time. I knew I wanted to improve and get better for the next year.
After winning our local 5K Turkey Trot, I met with a Payson alumni and former college runner. He put together a running program for me that had me run roughly 35 miles per week, and do core and strength workouts, for 2 and a half months before the season. This helped me drop my time to a 4:39, with the 5 second elevation drop at the end of my season. Now my bests for the mile is a 4:37 and for the two mile it is a 10:07. Going into my senior year of track I plan to give it my everything and go for the mile record, 4:25, and two mile record, 9:47. No matter what, I just want to finish the year knowing that I left everything on the track. By giving it my everything, to where my lungs can't breathe, my legs can't move, and my eyes can't see, and then I will know that it will just be the beginning of what I could really do. No matter what records I strive for, I ultimately want to reach the goal of giving it everything I
I have not gotten to where I am now based off talent. I have worked very hard to drop my times and improve not only as a runner, but as a person and student. I have the heart, the will power, and the mind strength to keep running and improving. It is not an easy sport, but it is one that pushes me to do my best.
