When I was young, I spent a lot of my time playing various sports, but nothing made the same impact that running did. My eighth grade PE teacher introduced me to running, and it showed me there was an outlet where I could challenge myself and form connections with people. It called to attention the grit and determination that I had all along, but no other sport taught me to channel.
After running at Canyon High School for the past three years, I have learned many things about myself that I plan to move forward and make an impact with. When I qualified for CIF in the 3200 as a sophomore, I recognized it took a lot of hard work and determination to succeed. With that realization, I began to stay focused on my training and to push myself harder than I thought I could.
My developed understanding of the importance of hard work and determination is something that I plan to move forward with not only in running but in my education also. Early on, my coaches saw leadership qualities in me. I have been a team captain for three years. I have used my skills to mentor others and help them grow as athletes and individuals.
As I look to the future, I know I am capable of making a difference by being a leader in athletics and the workplace. In college, I hope to run fast times and achieve good grades. I am confident that I will do this because I am working hard every day.
