Personal Statement
My collegiate goals are to commit to a university that has a good mechanical engineering program as well as an amazing track team. Additionally, my goal is to excel academically, in order to achieve my long term goal of becoming a mechanical engineer and in the short term, improve upon my track and field skills, to be a serious competitor professionally. I would be an excellent candidate for your team because I have great leadership skills that lend itself to building up a team and encouraging all to do their very best. Nonetheless, a few great qualities help me stand out from other recruits. I am thoughtful. I try to cover all the bases and my meticulousness helps me consider the finest details. I am ambitious. I am passionate about succeeding, not only in track, but in everything I do. But above all, I am a leader. I make every effort to lead by example and take charge whenever necessary. My athletic ability is strong and I am always open to advice. I am hardworking and I respond well to coaching. In track & field and basketball I am very competitive which pushes me to do better. Academically, I have grown accustomed to the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) program at my school which promotes adherence to the IB Learner Traits. I resonate most with the traits of being principled, balanced, and reflective. I am principled because I hold honesty near and dear, so academic honesty is very important and adhering to a study routine to help achieve good outcomes. Being balanced allows for sports and academics to play a distinct and important role in my life, while carving out a little time for family and friends. Self reflection allows for continual self assessment to help me learn from my mistakes, but it also teaches me how to be fully present in similar future encounters. All of these various traits culminate into making me the right candidate for your university.
