Personal Statement
My collegiate goal is to excel in cross country and track, and use team building skills, goal setting, time management and exercise experiences to both support my college team and focus my efforts on academics. I find that when I am focused on my running, my other endeavors, including academics, follow suit. I view myself as a very good runner, an extremely hard worker and a supportive teammate. Running is not a sport to me, it is my lifestyle. I intend for it to be so through and beyond college.
In college, I want to grow from a very good runner to a great runner. I favor longer distances, with personal PRs of a 4:41 mile, 10:12 2 mile, 16:55 5K and a 1:19 half marathon, in my first and only race of that distance. I run on a very well coached and talented team (State Champions in Cross Country in 2018), but I have room to improve. While I am not the fastest runner on my team, I am the hardest worker and the most supportive of my teammates in training. I have been selected the Varsity Team Newcomer of the Year in 2017 and the Varsity Team Coach's Award in 2018. I lead and organize weekend long runs and encourage and recruit runners from area middle schools. I also am the recruiter and instigant for the muddy trail runs, when available. I love the trails, having run messy and challenging mountain races of up to 25 miles in Montana for several summers, and always seek to impart this love of running upon my teammates, whom I view as my brothers. What I can offer a college team is my talent and my commitment, based on experience, to help build a cohesive team of runners who love the sport, love the practice and love one another.
