Personal Statement
My name is Brett Flerchinger. In my college search, I am looking for a college that can provide for my academic needs first and foremost. I am interested in STEM generally, but I slightly prefer mathematics. I am unsure exactly what I want to major in, but I have a few in mind, one of them being statistics. I have kept straight A's even while taking AP Physics 1 (SO year) and 2 (JR year )so far, giving me a weighted GPA of 4.14 for those years. I intent to take AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, and AP English Literature next year. I have taken the ACT and got a 35 and my PSAT score was 1430 (I haven't taken the SAT yet but intent to do so). I am a National Merit Scholar Qualifier and in the National Honor Society. My goals for college are ambitious and I want to attend a school with a very strong mathematics program.
While academics is very important to me, I am also very passionate about running. My 5K time is 16:44, 3200M 10:10, and 1600M in 4:33, but I am confidant I will break all of those in this upcoming year. I am very competitive, but also enjoy the pleasure and the close team bonds made in running. I am open to running at any level and at any college (provided the academics meet my needs) as running has become a big part of my life. Additionally, I can bring leadership and responsibility to a cross country or track team. I am in Boy Scouts of America, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and was the Senior Patrol Leader (highest leadership position) for 2 years. I am very motivated and optimistic, and actually enjoy challenging myself in workouts and races: no matter how long, fast and grueling they may be.
