Running at the varsity level seemed impossible my freshman year. The upperclassmen were extremely athletic, and I didn't see a varsity spot that I would be able to fill. I knew that it would take a great amount of determination to get myself to a level where I could compete as a varsity athlete, so I got to work. As a sophomore, I ran alongside a cross country team who placed 3rd as a team in the state meet. This winning attitude carried over into track season, but my season was unfortunately slowed down by injury. After a mediocre sophomore season, I was unsatisfied. I came back my junior year and ran the 400 all year for the first season ever. This helped me learn the race, and I improved on my 400 time by almost 3 whole seconds. My junior season ended with my 4x400 relay placing 9th at the state meet. I hope to carry this progression into the next season, and place better than I did last season.
Academically, I am one of the top in my class. As a Senior, I am one AP class, because my school offers no more. I excel in mathematics, and I am two grades ahead of my class. I am also a very open minded person, and enjoy reading. I plan to keep a GPA of at least 3.5 throughout high school, and hope that I can do the same when I leave for college.
I am excited to have the ability to participate in track at the collegiate level. I plan on competing to the best of my ability every time I am able to, including at practice. It is said that hard work pays off, and I strongly agree.
