Though I have been a strong runner throughout my middle and high school years, finishing as a varsity member of the State Runner-Up Cross Country team in 2015, I truly gained a respect for the sport of running during the summer between my sophomore and junior years. At the conclusion of my sophomore track season, I had suffered an overuse injury and failed to make the State track meet, despite qualifying for State cross country a few months before.
After rehabilitating my injury, I began to see training in a whole new light, dedicating many more hours each week to running in order to increase my mileage and ensure that the disaster scenario of sophomore track did not occur again. As a result, I had a breakout junior cross country season, finishing with All-State honors in the challenging 5A division and winning my league championship. However, I am not finished yet with my path to success, and thus my dedication has only strengthened as the 2018 outdoor season approaches. Based on the strides I have made already with new indoor personal bests during 2018, I believe that my junior track season will be by far my best yet.
I also have very strong academics and devote a substantial amount of effort to ensure that I retain excellent grades and continue to push myself in the classroom. I value the opportunity to get a college degree and education as a whole very highly. Quantitatively, I have a 4.23 weighted GPA, have enrolled in numerous Honors and Advanced Placement courses, and have a 35 ACT score.
I've learned through my running and academic experiences that with a proper work ethic, I can compete at a level that I never could have dreamed of before. I am a competitor who will not accept failure and will instead learn from it and come back stronger. This principle has led me to the pinnacle of running in my state, and I hope that it can take me even further at the collegiate level.
