In the spring of 2017, my freshmen year, the outdoor track and field season was merely a way to stay in shape for soccer, which at the time was my focus. However, I found myself loving track, but I still pursued soccer for another year. As my times began to drop rapidly, my sophomore track season brought about one of the toughest decisions of my life: whether to continue playing soccer which I had worked at since I was in elementary school, or train all summer to join my teammates for the 2018 cross country season. I chose running.
After winning our league championship, being the runner up team at our divisional championship, and running at the All State meet for the first time in our school's history, I was reassured that I had made the right decision. Now I continue to train hard through the off seasons to make sure I keep getting faster. I pride myself on training in the off season so I'm ready to race once that first meet roles around.
Running is one of the most important things in my life and I am very set on running cross country and track in college because not only does it bring me happiness, but it makes me more productive in school. I find it much easier to do my schoolwork after I have taken a run, and as my academics are of paramount importance, since running facilitates my academic success I think it is very important for me to continue my athletic career into college.
