I want to compete in Track & Field in College because I love the sport and continuously strive to improve. My sports journey started in Middle school with basketball and soccer, where I was relatively talented at both. However, I relied on athleticism rather than skill to succeed. So, for example, in soccer, I would often score by outrunning the other defenders as I was fast, but little did I know that my true talent was not on the Soccer field until I joined Track. At the beginning of my Freshman year, I started with cross country because I was fast and had stamina. However, I soon realized that soccer stamina is not similar to cross-country stamina, so I tried the shorter distance events in my sophomore year. Fall 2022 ushered in my sophomore year, where I began Track and Field. Surprisingly, I thoroughly enjoyed the sport and its competitiveness as it was the first nonteam sport in which I had participated. As this was my first time jumping and running, it took me a few meets jumping with the junior varsity team to figure out the techniques involved with this sport. Many meets and many failures later, my technique and form came together when I broke the sophomore record and was moved up to Varsity.
My running experience was similar but it it took a shorter time to understand what needed to be done and how to excel. After lots of hard work, undoubtedly, I now know that track is my sport, and my love for this sport absolutely drives me. Despite my small achievements, I recognize that I still have so much more to learn, and running track in College is one of the ways I can achieve that. Doing what I love while obtaining my Business degree is an unbeatable combination. I aim to become better at track, more focused, and determined to succeed. In my view, both on and off the field, determination, hard work, and discipline are qualities for success in sport, work, and life. Track and Field has helped me adopt a new attitude towards life in that hard work is the key to success. So, if, at 16, I have come to this realization, then I hope I am on my way to making a positive contribution to this world.
Thank you,
Aidan
