I’ve always been competitive, but I didn’t expect track to become such a big part of my life. I started running in 7th grade, mostly just to stay in shape and be around friends, but over time, I found myself looking forward to practices and meets. Then I tried hurdles, and that changed everything.
At first, I wasn’t good at them at all. I kept stuttering before the first hurdle and didn’t trust my steps. But something about it made me want to keep going. I liked the challenge. I remember one practice where I clipped almost every hurdle, and my coach just said, “You’ll get it, trust your rhythm.” That stuck with me.
Since then, I’ve gotten faster, more confident, and way more focused. Hurdles taught me to be patient and consistent, not just in track, but in other parts of life too. It’s helped me stay disciplined with school, and it’s made me a better teammate. I try to be someone others can count on, especially on meet days when the nerves kick in.
I’m still learning, still pushing myself. But I know I’ve found something I care about, and I’m excited to keep growing as an athlete and a person, whether I’m on the track or off it.
