2021 Hockey Highl...Like most boys my age, I have been playing hockey since I was about 5 or 6. When I was in 3rd grade, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I disliked school so much that I actually stopped playing hockey half-way through that season. I started to receive the help I needed in school and returned to play the following season. Despite my difficulties in school, the hockey rink was the one place that I felt comfortable and at home. Learning how to "think" about the game, to see angles, and experiencing some success on the ice transformed me as a person and I student. I became more confident in school, eventually placing out of my IEP. I performed well enough as a freshman to be moved up as a sophomore to all Accelerated classes and one Honors class. I continue to love playing hockey, especially with my "brothers" at my all-boys high school, with my friends on my club team, and meeting new players in spring league. I also began competing in track and field as a sophomore. I had wanted to participate as a freshman, but the season was cancelled due to COVID. I enjoyed the combination of competing as an individual but as part of a larger team. Just like in hockey, my best ability, my father always says, is my availability. I believe I am dependable and a good teammate.
