Personal Statement
My biggest collegiate aspiration is to compete in triple jump and long jump at the university level. This goal is the beginning of my journey to the Olympics. As a dedicated athlete, I practice jumping alone regularly. After daily track practices, I lift weights. I also play football and basketball to stay in shape for track season. In my spare time, I watch videos of Olympic and collegiate athletes in order to observe different techniques. Despite my intense focus on the track, I haven't always applied the same focus to my academics. It took me a while to realize that I would need really good grades to qualify for collegiate sports. As a result, I have started to focus more in school, and I'm now making straight As.
As previously mentioned, I play other sports to stay in shape for track. While playing those other sports, I built my leadership skills by being captain of my basketball team. I encourage my teammates to do better and try harder to get better at what they do. I also take initiative when my coach isn't around to start practice. When I see other teammates that don't really know how to do something I try my best to help them. In addition to being captain of my basketball team, I am also a captain of our track team. I look forward to being a candidate for your team.
