Personal Statement
I, along with many otters, was affected by the pandemic. Although I may not have been as badly affected physically as many others, Covid-19 has had a lasting impact on my life. Not being able to participate in track, the sport I have fallen in love with, has truly opened my eyes to how badly I would like to pursue track throughout my high school and collegiate careers.
Despite the difficulties covid has provided me with, I have still worked as hard as possible to improve within my specific events. My freshman year I peaked at running an 11.4s 100m, it is one of my most memorable races. Along with the 100m, I was also able to succeed in Long Jump. Not only was I able to jump an 18ft 11in the Long jump as a freshman, but I am also improving at about a 1.5ft increase per year since 6th grade. In the end, that is my ultimate goal: improving. There is one motto I live by in life: “Stride for perfection, knowing it is unobtainable.” This mindset has me aimed at improving and preparing for any setbacks that will come my way.
Track also helps me in life, and will also likely continue to help me through college. Possibly the most important facet of track for me is that I as a person am most productive in a team environment. I believe myself to be a valuable team leader who also can contribute as a teammate. I believe I have rather good people skills that are also valuable in a team environment. As for outside of track, I am very passionate about photography, both as a hobby and profession. Along with that, it is my dream to travel the U.S. and other countries in the world to immerse myself in other cultures.
