Personal Statement
My name is Preston Whisenhunt I am currently a Senior at Marietta High School. This is my Second year as a Marietta Indian and I am excited to start this new journey. My family and I made the decision to transfer to Marietta so that I could have the opportunity to reach my full potential as a runner and athlete.
The 2018 season will be my Third cross-country and my 4th track season. I found running later than most but believe this leaves me with the ability to improve drastically in the upcoming years. I am beyond excited to be part of Marietta’s program this year and to train with them. Their training program has proven in the past that it is very successful with both cross-country and track. In the past their training program has lead to very talented runners and I hope to learn from the upper classmen and other members to improve my skills as a runner.
I know that academics are also very important and I plan to continue to strive for excellence in the classroom. My goals are to average a 3.5 GPA and to obtain at least a 24 on the ACT. I have not yet taken the ACT but plan to do so twice this year. I am set to take the ACT on October 3, 2017 and April 3, 2017.
I believe it’s very important to set goals as a competitive athlete at the of competing at a higher level. Here are some of my expectations and goals for my Senior year of high school:
- 1600 meters: 4:25
- 3200 meter: 9:31
- 5k: 15:30
I plan to attend a College that embodies my values, such as Cross Country and Track, with high expectations and can provide a quality education in my chosen field of study. My primary goal to attend college is to prepare for life after athletics. I believe that running in college could hold me accountable in obtaining this goal. Competitive sports have played a major role in my life thus far and have gotten me where I am today in academics and athletics. Therefore, I wish to continue running throughout college to continue to learn life lessons while obtaining my degree and bettering my life.
