Personal Statement
Throughout my years in high school and youth athletics, my greatest takeaway is to make the most of what I've got. As a pole vaulter, that was a total of 30 poles -- not all poles I could use, but the total number the club had. Within two months and two poles of my very first meet, I was ranked first in Canada at 14 years old in the u16 category for a few weeks before the pole couldn't get me any higher. As vaulters, lengthening the approach to get on a bigger pole is everyone's goal. Whereas for me, shortening my approach to make the biggest pole in the collection useable was my only option. I am using what I've got to get into your vaulting program, knowing that it will bring me to new heights.
My adaptive skills, however, are not only used on the runway. In any sport I haved played, from swimming to hockey to cross country, my hard work and determination helps me succeed. With my sophomore and junior cross country team captain position, I have greatly impacted not only my teammates' performances, but their work ethic as well. In my academic career, I not only maintain high scores, but I always am improving them. I push my limits. No matter the field, I take every opportunity to better myself -- as a leader, an athlete, a student, and a man -- always shooting for the moon; aiming for a college program that is the perfect fit for me.
Although my PRs may not stand out yet, I believe my proven hard work and commitment to the sport will benefit your program.
