Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
The aspect of me as an athlete that separates me from the others is how quickly I am growing and progressing and the potential it shows. I have only been taking running seriously for a little over a year and I am already a top 5 distance runner in Ontario for my age. I know with good coaching and my continued dedication, I will continue to get faster and faster. I am very far away from my ceiling and I have a lot of room to grow, yet I am already competing with athletes who have been doing this since they were 12 or 13.
My province held the School Provincial Championships on the 6th of November and I finished third in the race of 202 people. The winning time was 19:14 and I came in at 19:27 on a long course with elevation.
My favourite races are cross country and the 5000m. I also run the 3000m and would love to the opportunity to run the 10000 m in university.
Academically, I am at the top of my classes in high school. I have maintained a 94% average through my high school career while balancing a job, running, and many more extracurriculars. Last year I was the Halton District School Board Student Trustee which was a huge responsibility. It took up much of my time yet during that year I saw my highest average yet. I am a leader in my school and will continue to be a leader at whatever program and school I end up attending. I have also been very active as a volunteer in my school community and outside of it. I am a youth leader in my school and had the opportunity to mentor first years as they began their high school journey. I am also a member of my student parliament as the Co-Prime Minister. Outside the school community, I have been able to help coach young runners in my club. I was also a coach with my local triathlon club and I coached the running sessions.
I am also very organized, resourceful, and time oriented. At my job I am in charge of the employees below and younger than me. I have to organize them throughout the day to keep my manager and customers satisfied. It is a difficult task yet I am able to do it effectively which is why I am trusted to continue.
My goal is to compete at a D1 level in track and cross country. I want to study the humanities, including criminology, law, and political science.
