Personal Statement
From the time I was young to now my family has always urged me to work as hard as I can. With both of my parents coming from small homes with hard-working parents they have always pushed me to keep my priorities straight and be a leader, not a follower. Track has been very special to me because it allows me to look back and see that my success has been a direct representation of the work I have put in. Nothing feels better than dropping more and more time off your personal record time. From my freshman to sophomore year I was able to drop 10 seconds in the 800 meter run, reducing my time from 2:14 to 2:04.13. Performing in track on the next level would be more than a great accomplishment and opportunity. It would allow me to keep working as hard as I can at something I love and would give me something to carry on the rest of my life. In terms of personality, I would bring a sense of class, leadership, hard-work and dedication. I have made high honor roll every quarter in my high school career and am now part of the National Honor Society. This is the example of the work ethic I would continue to bring to college, on the track, and more importantly, in the class room. I am working aggressively to continue to drop time and get to my goal of being a district champion and more. What separates me from other people are my well rounded talents and mature attitude. I have won multiple awards in school for my character. One of them was the Principal's Enthusiasm Award and states "Think about what makes a great leader... It's not a lofty title or a position of power, but a unique spirit." That is what I want to bring. My unique spirit to overcome obstacles, the confidence to positively influence others, and the determination to succeed.
