Personal Statement
Running has been my passion since I was a child. I played soccer when I was younger and always loved to run. I ran a few local 5k’s when I was in fifth and sixth grade and absolutely loved it. When I found out about cross country in middle school, it was an easy decision to sign up for it. I have taken running very seriously since my 7th grade season. I have been generally successful with running from 7th grade-9th grade. Right at the beginning of my freshman cross country season, I suffered a stress fracture on my tibia. However, right before injury I ran a 5k time of 16:23 at a local 5k in Grove City, PA called Twilight Quad : Courtney’s Ice Cream Race. I did also run the first race of my cross country season freshman year. It was a dual meet at our home course. I ran a 15:38 on a short course while injured, the third fastest time on the course by a Franklin runner. My injury kept me out from any serious running from September until March. Even then, I was instructed to come back slowly. During my 9th grade track season and sophomore cross country season, I did not run times that demonstrate my full ability. However, I am working my hardest every day to get back to where I want to be and strongly believe my sophomore track times and junior year cross country times will show this.
I am very excited for the future and for upcoming seasons. I am willing to work harder than anybody else will and will not give up until I succeed. Running in college has been a dream of mine since I started running. Academics are very important to me, and are my number one priority when it comes to running in college. I am willing to compete at any level athletically, and will play any role on the team. Thank you for your consideration.
