Personal Statement
In middle school, and going into high school, I was a part of a variety of different clubs and sports teams, with the knowledge that I knew I wanted to play some sport in college. Although I loved playing other sports, such as football and soccer, after my freshman year I stopped playing my other sports. This was so I could focus on developing my career in track. Since then, my times have improved greatly and I continue to push myself as much as possible.
Unfortunately, at the end of my sophomore year, the coach who had taught me the most resigned. All of the hurdlers were left without a coach and very little guidance. So, being the most experienced hurdler on my team, I stepped up and tried my best to teach the other athletes what I knew until the slot was filled. Going into my winter season of my junior year, my goal was to run the state qualifying time for the 60 Meter Hurdles, and I achieved that goal at the first meet I attended. I am looking forward to a great spring season to improve my 110 and 300MH times.
I believe I’d be a fitting candidate for a college track team because I have good leaderships skills and am looking to develop as an athlete and student. I think what makes me different from other athletes is that I’m open to criticism and am always looking for new ways to improve my times.
