Personal Statement

I am 6'3" and  190 lbs. I attend Kent State University in Kent, OH, enrolled as a freshman and conservation major. In high school I participated in five sports. These sports include basketball, golf, track & field, cross country and baseball. I was MVP of my basketball team three times. I was the leader in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocked shots. I was selected to NTL honorable mention my sophomore year and I was second team NTL and first team all region my junior year. I played club basketball for Southern Tier Rage for two years. I was MVP of the golf team three times and was voted the NTL coaches most improved player. I participated in the district tournament for two years. I qualified for the second day of play in the district tournament my senior year. I was MVP of my schools track & field team my junior year and qualified for districts in five events. I also qualified for the state meet in javelin as a junior. I am currently the school record holder for the high jump (6'5"), javelin (221'6"), and triple jump (43'0). I was first team all-region for javelin and second team all-region for high jump. I lettered in baseball my freshman and sophomore years. I was a runner and a manager for my school's cross country team my freshman year. I believe that I can bring leadership to a team because I have been the captain of my golf team for three years, captain of my envirothon team for two years, and captain of my basketball team for one year. I would preferably like to attend a school that is of a high academic standing. I prefer a quality education because that is what really matters in the long run. The size of the school will not affect my decision and the athletic competitiveness has little bearing on my decision as long as I get to play the sports I love. I am very interested in the Environment, as I plan to major in Environmental Science and earn a Bachelors of the Science (B.S.). A B.S. in Environmental Science will allow me to work in the environment, and I aspire to become an environmental scientist. I would like to have a hands-on occupation, and working as an environmental scientist would give me that opportunity. For example, natural gas drilling has become a prominent business in Northeastern Pennsylvania. I would like to help make sure that the environmental impact is kept to a minimum. Realistically, I would like to play sports as a freshman if given the chance. Being at the highest competition level does not matter too much to me. All in all, I would be enthused to play sports in college if given the opportunity.
