Personal Statement
My name is Carter Akkerman, and I am a class of 2024 student at Washington High School in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I am a sprinter/middle distance track and field athlete interested in attending a school with a good academic reputation and strong track and field program.
On the track, I have been a leading 400 m athlete for my high school, and a top track and field prospect in South Dakota. I have been a Varsity Letter Recipient in both my freshman and sophomore seasons, and qualified for the 2022 South Dakota State Track Meet in 4 events ( 400 m, Medley Relay, 4 X 400 m, and 4 X 200 m). Highlights from my sophomore season include a time of 52.58 sec in the 400 m at the State Track meet which was 16th place overall, and a 4th place finish among sophomores and freshman. In the Medley Relay, I clocked a 50.1 sec 400 m split helping my team achieve a 5th place finish. When I am not on the track, I also am wide receiver for our Varsity Football Team and an outfielder on the Sioux Falls Post 15 Jr. Legion Baseball team where we won the 2022 State Jr. Legion Baseball Tournament.
In the classroom, I have a 3.54 GPA and have taken AP classes helping to prepare me to further my academic career. I feel all my hard work in high school has prepared me to be a college student athlete and look forward to the challenges ahead.
