Hi, my name is Christopher Ashton Hicks, but I usually go by Ashton. Growing up I believe that track has always been a go to for me with anything, its helped me physically and mentally go through anything. I became interested in track about the 8th grade, it was something I was pretty decent in and it also helped me stand out as an individual since track was not the most interesting sport in my town. As I started to really work on track I saw progress and me pushing my limit seemed almost addicting. My passion for the sport grew as time went on.
My team and I won the mile relay at the 4A state championship my sophomore year, It was a great and fun year for me. I knew that my junior year would have some room to cover if I wanted to follow that state title up. Going into my junior year i had small adversities as I pulled my hip flexor at the beginning of the season, I was out for the first two meets. What I have learned from that injury is to trust in the process and being patient. When i got better I knew I would have to come back bigger and better than before. At the end of the high school season I won the open 400 meter dash in the 4A state championship. After that I had the chance to run at the Great Southwestern Classics in Albuquerque, NM. My mile relay team placed 2nd overall and broke the Texas record in the mile relay.
What i think track has taught me is that its all about the progress and determination you put in to the sport. If you are not focused on the task at hand then you will not succeed. I am so determined to push my limits and meet my goals going into my senior year.
